Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing treatment is meant for reducing skin irregularities, like acne scars and blemishes, and facial wrinkles. The technique uses short, concentrated laser pulses to remove skin layers precisely and one by one. This procedure is also known as laser vaporization, laser peel, or lasabrasion.
You may be a suitable candidate for laser skin resurfacing if you have wrinkles or fine lines around the eyes and mouth. Motykie Medical Spa, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides laser skin resurfacing for the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.
Types of Laser Skin Resurfacing
There are several different types of lasers, such as erbium and carbon dioxide (CO2) that are used in laser resurfacing. These vaporize skin cells that are damaged at the surface level.
- CO2 Laser Resurfacing
This type of laser resurfacing has been in use for years. The treatment can work on creases, facial wrinkles, and other conditions. Fractioned Co2 lasers are the latest version and make use of ultrapulse or very short pulsed light energy. These are continuous light beams that are delivered in a scanning pattern for removing thin layers of skin without significant heat damage. Your recovery may take up to 14 days.
- Erbium Laser Resurfacing
Erbium laser resurfacing is focused on removing moderately deep and surface-level wrinkles and lines on the hands, face, chest, and neck. One of the primary benefits of erbium laser resurfacing is reduced burning of tissues.
There are few side effects to this laser type. Side effects include redness, bruising, and swelling. Recovery time in this type of laser is faster as compared to CO2 laser resurfacing. In some cases, recovery may not take more than 7 days. Erbium laser skin resurfacing medical spa treatment is recommended for people with darker skin tone.
- Fractional Lasers
Only a fraction of the treatment area is targeted with this type of laser at a time. The option can be used for treating a number of concerns, such as fine lines, blemishes, and wrinkles. The laser energy will be broken in thousands of tiny beams for treating a fraction of the skin area. This helps in reducing downtime. The laser can either be ablative or non-ablative.
Expectations
Laser skin resurfacing is generally an outpatient med spa procedure, which means you don’t need to stay overnight. The doctor will numb the area if only a small area needs to be treated. You may receive general anesthesia if the entire face needs to be treated. The entire procedure will take only 30 to 45 minutes if only parts of the face are being treatment. Full facial treatment can take up to 2 hours.
Recovering from Laser Skin Resurfacing
Your doctor will bandage the treated area following the laser procedure. You will need to clean the area 4 to 5 times a day after 24 hours of the treatment. You will be asked to apply petroleum jelly or any other ointment for preventing scabs from forming. All wounds will heal within 10 to 21 days.
Motykie Med Spa, led by cosmetic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for laser skin resurfacing for the treatment of facial wrinkles and fine lines.
