Mole / Skin Tag Removal

Mole / Skin Tag Removal

Mole and Skin Tag Removal Options

The best of skin complexions is easily marred by outgrowths such as skin tags and moles that may occur on the face and neck. They don’t need to be a cause for worry though because our surgeons are experts at removing these growths.

Using latest med spa techniques such as snip or shape removal, liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, electrodessication and laser treatments, moles and skin tags can be easily removed leaving behind only the tiniest of scars.

Motykie Medical Spa, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides chin and jawline enhancement treatments to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.

When should I see a doctor about a mole?

Most mole growths are not dangerous, but few may grow into melanoma which is a type of skin cancer. If you experience any of the following conditions, you should see a plastic surgeon at once:

  • Itching or burning sensation or pain in the mole
  • Discharge of blood or other fluid from a mole
  • Blurring of the borders of the mole, or changes in its structure
  • Darkening or texture changes or irregular coloring of the mole

What skin tag treatment or mole treatment options are possible?

Removing skin tags and mole removal is possible using several different techniques such as surgical scissors, electrosurgery or cryosurgery. The cosmetic surgeon will decide which particular method to use depending on the size and number of skin tags or moles.

Surgical scissors is the simplest med spa treatment method to remove skin tags along with the attached stem to prevent its re-growth. Moles on the skin surface may be removed entirely by shaving.

Electrosurgery makes use of an electric current to burn away the topmost layers of the mole or skin tag. Skin tags are easier to remove in a single sitting by simply burning the stalk that holds the skin tag in contact with your skin. Moles may require repeat treatments for complete removal.

Cryosurgery involves freezing of the mole or skin tag. When the treatment provider applies a small quantity of liquid nitrogen onto the affected area, it gets frozen and can be gently removed from there.

To avoid discomfort, the area from where the skin tag or mole is to be removed will be rendered numb before the start of the procedure. A little redness, blistering, and discomfort in the treated area is quite common following the procedure. With these advanced techniques that are minimally invasive, permanent marks or scars are very rare.

How does skin growth removal with cryotherapy work?

Cryotherapy is one of the most common techniques used to remove skin growths such as skin tags, moles, and warts. In this procedure, extremely cold temperature is created, which leads to the formation of icicles within cells of the affected area. A blister forms between the skin’s epidermal layer and the undesirable skin outgrowth, damaging it in the process. The outgrowths or lesions then turn into scabs which later fall off on their own.

Motykie Medical Spa, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides chin and jawline enhancement treatments to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding locations.

What is a weak chin / jaw line and what can you do about it?

Nonsurgical Options to Help Build a Strong Jaw Line Non-surgically

A strong jaw line and chin have a huge impact on your facial appearance by making you appear more fit and young. A receding jaw line or a recessed chin tends to weaken the symmetry of your face and this may change the youthfulness and attractiveness of your appearance.

Loose skin and jowls often persist despite the best efforts at exercise and diet control. If you find this happening to you, or if you are one of those persons who have always had a weak jaw line, don’t worry! Several non-surgical med spa options are now available to help you improve the attractiveness of your chin and jaw line.

Motykie Medical Spa, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides chin and jawline enhancement treatments to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding locations.

Nonsurgical options

Nonsurgical options work best if you have:

  • fairly well-defined chin with moderate amount of surrounding loose skin.
  • Mild or moderate fat around the chin obscuring the jaw line.

These options include dermal fillers, neurotoxin treatment, fat melting injectables, and surgical threads.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are best for those who have a mildly weak jaw line with no hardness visible at the bony edge. Injecting the fillers into the jaw line enhances the edges of the mandible and the bony angle, improving its hardness.

The quantity of dermal filler required differs based on the anatomy of your jaw line, and the degree of definition you want to attain. Generally, about 1-4 syringes suffice and results are quick to show, with the effects lasting for a year to 18 months.

Neurotoxin to the masseter muscles

The bulge you feel at the jaw ends when you clench your teeth are the masseter muscles. Placing Botulinum toxin (Dysport, Botox, or Xeomin) med spa injections directly into these muscles helps to thin them.

This injection of the neurotoxin pulls your face into a V-like shape and renders your face slimmer in appearance. Visible results generally require about 84-168 units of Dysport or 30-60 units of Botox/Xeomin per side and results last for around 4 months.

Kybella for melting chin and neck fat

Mild amounts of excess fat in the chin and neck region respond well to a fat melting agent such as Kybella that is made of deoxycholic acid. The on-label use is restricted to the double chin area; injections to the edges and back portions of the jaw line are considered off-label use.

The quantity of Kybella to be injected depends on the amount of fat in your jaw region. On an average, 1-6 vials may be necessary. This process melts the fat physically, leading to permanent results, provided you keep your overall weight in check.

Surgical threads for loose skin

Placing surgical threads around the jowls helps with tightening skin that is slightly loose. Depending on the amount of loose skin and the width of your jowls, about 4-8 threads may be required. Surgical threads usually retain their tightening effect for 6-12 months. Motykie Medical Spa receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for chin and jawline augmentation.
