Mole and Skin Tag Removal Options
The best of skin complexions is easily marred by outgrowths such as skin tags and moles that may occur on the face and neck. They don’t need to be a cause for worry though because our surgeons are experts at removing these growths.
Using latest med spa techniques such as snip or shape removal, liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, electrodessication and laser treatments, moles and skin tags can be easily removed leaving behind only the tiniest of scars.
Motykie Medical Spa, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides chin and jawline enhancement treatments to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.
When should I see a doctor about a mole?
Most mole growths are not dangerous, but few may grow into melanoma which is a type of skin cancer. If you experience any of the following conditions, you should see a plastic surgeon at once:
- Itching or burning sensation or pain in the mole
- Discharge of blood or other fluid from a mole
- Blurring of the borders of the mole, or changes in its structure
- Darkening or texture changes or irregular coloring of the mole
What skin tag treatment or mole treatment options are possible?
Removing skin tags and mole removal is possible using several different techniques such as surgical scissors, electrosurgery or cryosurgery. The cosmetic surgeon will decide which particular method to use depending on the size and number of skin tags or moles.
Surgical scissors is the simplest med spa treatment method to remove skin tags along with the attached stem to prevent its re-growth. Moles on the skin surface may be removed entirely by shaving.
Electrosurgery makes use of an electric current to burn away the topmost layers of the mole or skin tag. Skin tags are easier to remove in a single sitting by simply burning the stalk that holds the skin tag in contact with your skin. Moles may require repeat treatments for complete removal.
Cryosurgery involves freezing of the mole or skin tag. When the treatment provider applies a small quantity of liquid nitrogen onto the affected area, it gets frozen and can be gently removed from there.
To avoid discomfort, the area from where the skin tag or mole is to be removed will be rendered numb before the start of the procedure. A little redness, blistering, and discomfort in the treated area is quite common following the procedure. With these advanced techniques that are minimally invasive, permanent marks or scars are very rare.
How does skin growth removal with cryotherapy work?
Cryotherapy is one of the most common techniques used to remove skin growths such as skin tags, moles, and warts. In this procedure, extremely cold temperature is created, which leads to the formation of icicles within cells of the affected area. A blister forms between the skin’s epidermal layer and the undesirable skin outgrowth, damaging it in the process. The outgrowths or lesions then turn into scabs which later fall off on their own.
