Long-term Effects of Coolsculpting

Coolsculpting

CoolSculpting is a highly effective med spa body contouring procedure for people seeking to get rid of too much fat in problem areas. It freezes and eliminates fat cells in a non-surgical manner. But the long-term impacts of the treatment, positive as well as negative, may be a concern for some patients.

Any new patient would like to know: How sustainable are the outcomes? Will freezing cause an adverse effect on the body’s shape or lead to tissue damage?

The noteworthy news is that CoolSculpting does not lead to any long-term harmful effects. The patient may feel pain or soreness for some days after the treatment. Besides that, they can enjoy their new body without any anxiety or future concerns.

Motykie Medical Spa, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides essential, perspicacious, and proven non-surgical CoolSculpting treatment to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.

Safe and Effective Procedure

The freezing action of CoolSculpting only affects the fat cells as they are the only part of the body that can freeze at significantly cold temperatures. The blood vessels, nerves, and skin are water-based, and therefore they will not freeze.

Additionally, the CoolSculpting med spa procedure does not lead to the development of any lumps or hanging skin. It has been designed such that the fat reduction appears very natural.

Researchers have been able to study the long-term impacts of CoolSculpting with over three million CoolSculpting procedures already having been undertaken worldwide. At this time, there are no adverse long-term effects of CoolSculpting that have been reported.

This is a unique procedure as the body naturally eliminates the frozen fat cells forever. However, CoolSculpting is not meant for weight loss and is not comparable to a weight loss surgery. It is a treatment for fat reduction.

Reliability of CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting’s foundation is the treatment principle of cryolipolysis. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provided cryolipolysis approval for fat reduction in the flanks in the year 2010, abdomen in 2012, thighs in 2014, and the submental region in 2015.

Cryolipolysis is a sought-after non-surgical body contouring procedure due to its effectiveness, safety, sustainability, and tolerability. According to published research, the longevity of the fat reduction was demonstrated through tests on two patients who received a single cryolipolysis flank treatment.

Both patients continued to sustain fat reduction results for up to five years after the initial CoolSculpting treatment.

Possible Fat Loss

The CoolSculpting treatment makes use of controlled cooling to remove small amounts of undesirable fat from the targeted sites, such as the love handles. Fat cells have an adverse reaction to cold temperatures. This enables 20 to 25% of subcutaneous fat to be eliminated in the area with every treatment session.

Rare Side Effect

CoolSculpting may lead to some mild and short-term side effects. Certain patients experience mild pain, redness, inflammation or bruising after their CoolSculpting treatment. However, these side-effects usually resolve in a few days.

Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia is a highly rare and delayed side-effect of CoolSculpting that occurs in 1 out of every 20,000 patients resulting in the development of adipose tissue in the treated site two to five months post-treatment.

Motykie Medical Spa receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and other neighborhoods and suburbs in this part of the state for CoolSculpting.

Jowl Fat Removal With Kybella

Kybella

It is often difficult to get rid of fat around the jowls, which is an area along the jaw line. Diet and exercise alone may not be enough to achieve the patient’s goals in this area.

The fat accumulation in jowls occurs due to various reasons such as genetics, age, and weight, which can make a person appear older.

As the body ages, the facial tissue starts to sag and can develop fatty deposits along the jaw and on the sides of the chin. The skin sags downwards on the face making it appear fuller. The traditional way to eliminate fat on the jaw and face is through surgery, usually a liposuction or a facelift.

But now jowl fat removal is possible with FDA-approved Kybella injectable treatment. Motykie Medical Spa, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides Kybella injections to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and other towns and suburbs in this region of the state.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an injectable procedure that eliminates fat cells under the chin and around the jowls. The treatment can be designed to achieve a reduction of fatty deposits in the jowl area.

Kybella comprises the deoxycholic acid. This is a natural substance that disintegrates fat cells and shrinks fat deposits. The human body uses this same substance to dissolve dietary fat.

How does Kybella Enhance the Jowls?

Kybella injectable med spa treatment works around the jowls in the same way as it does in the submental area. The procedure involves a series of injectable treatments within set 4 to 6 weeks apart. The treatment provider will usually recommend two to three injections for a desirable reduction. The jowl region is smaller than the submental region. Therefore, this area will need fewer injections.

The patient will experience significant inflammation after receiving the injection for the initial week because of the inflammatory process involved in the disintegration of fat cells by the solution.

Kybella slims down the jawline and may also reduce the appearance of a double chin. The procedure involves minimal downtime, no sagging skin and an improvement in the firmness of the skin. Kybella is an excellent med spa technique to sharpen the jawline and take fat (and years!) off the patient’s face.

With just a few injections, most patients can notice a visibly younger and sharper appearing jaw and face. A majority of the patients experience some inflammation in the initial week after receiving their injection with a slight risk of other side effects.

How does Kybella work?

Deoxycholic acid is a bile acid which the body naturally produces to enable fat absorption. Kybella injections involve using a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid as an injection. After the provider injects it in the jowls, the acid destructs the fat cells underneath the chin area so that it is unable to store any more fat.

The patient should ensure that a trained professional injects Kybella as the deoxycholic acid can destroy other healthy cells as well. Prior to the procedure, the provider will mark the injection sites using a marker and administer a topical numbing cream or ice pack to ensure that the patient is comfortable. Typically, 20 to 30 (maximum up to 50) injections are used beneath the chin.

The dedicated Motykie Medical Spa receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for Kybella injections.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox

Botox is used medically in the treatment of specific muscular conditions as well as cosmetically to eliminate wrinkles by paralyzing the muscles temporarily.

Botox med spa injections include a neurotoxin known as botulinum toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

Motykie Medical Spa, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides Botox injections to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities across the landscape.

Botox Highlights

  • Botox is the most sought-after non-surgical cosmetic treatment, with over six million Botox treatments performed annually.
  • Botox is a neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum which is a mostly inactive and non-toxic organism found in nature.
  • Botulinum toxin helps mitigate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the underlying muscles.
  • Botox can also be useful in the treatment of migraines, excessive sweating, muscular disorders, and certain bladder and bowel conditions.

Function

In human beings, the botulinum toxin can only be injected in tiny amounts. It works by inhibiting the signals from the nerve cells from reaching the muscles, effectively paralyzing them.

For the muscles to contract, nerves release a chemical messenger known as acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter), at the point where the nerve endings and muscles connect. Acetylcholine attaches to the receptors on the muscle cells causing them to contract or become shorter.

The botulinum toxin that is injected prevents the acetylcholine release. This prevents the muscle cells from contracting. This toxin leads to a decrease in abnormal muscle contraction enabling the muscles to become less stiff.

Uses

Botulinum toxin is mainly used to treat the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the facial skin. Other than cosmetic applications, Botox is also used in the treatment of various medical conditions such as migraines, profuse sweating, eye squints, and leaky bladders.

Botulinum toxin is presently used in the treatment of more than 20 medical conditions while more applications are still being understood. Botulinum toxin currently has the FDA approval for the following medical applications:

  • Blepharospasm (spasm of the eyelids)
  • Chronic migraine
  • Idiopathic rotational cervical dystonia (severe neck and shoulder muscle spasms)
  • Post-stroke upper limb spasticity
  • Hemifacial spasm
  • Severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Canthal lines (crow’s feet)
  • Strabismus (crossed eyes)
  • Detrusor (bladder wall muscle) overactivity – causing urinary incontinence
  • Overactive bladder
  • Glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows)

Botulinum toxin is used in the off-label (not approved) treatment of the following conditions:

  • Achalasia (a throat condition that makes swallowing challenging).
  • Sialorrhea (producing excessive saliva).
  • Anal fissure and anismus (dysfunction of the anal sphincter).
  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever).

Botox – FDA Approved for Canthal Lines

Lateral canthal lines or crow’s feet are the lines that extend from the outer corner of the eyes. These lines usually develop due to repetitive facial movements such as frowning, smiling or squinting, or other facial expressions. These expressions cause the underlying facial muscles to contract while the outer skin develops folds. This could lead to permanent fine lines and wrinkles over time.

In order to mitigate the appearance of canthal lines, the treatment provider will use a Botox injection directly into the overactive muscle that is leading to the wrinkle development.

Motykie Medical Spa receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas in this area of The Golden State for Botox injections.
