Juvederm vs. Voluma

Juvederm vs. VolumaJuvederm Ultra as well as Juvederm Voluma are both leading cosmetic dermal fillers manufactured by Allergan, Inc. Both med spa anti-aging facial injectable treatments have received the FDA’s approval. The treatment provider will evaluate the patient’s needs and recommend the most appropriate filler in each case.
During the initial consultation, the provider will also explain the differences between Juvederm and Voluma to ensure that the patient makes an educated decision. Motykie Medical Spa, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides both Juvederm and Voluma to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding locations.

Differences

While both Juvederm and Voluma facial fillers are based on hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance in the body to hold the skin firmly together, the concentration of this ingredient in the two fillers will vary. Voluma has a higher concentration to create a deeper volumizing effect and produce longer lasting results.
Juvederm Voluma is, in fact, the first FDA approved dermal filler for cheek volumizing. Patients with sunken cheeks or thinning cheek skin can benefit substantially with Voluma injections at a qualified med spa. Juvederm Ultra, on the other hand, has a relatively lower concentration of hyaluronic acid and is designed to fill moderate to severe wrinkles and creases in the facial skin.

Texture
Both Juvederm and Voluma are available in gel form to create instant volumizing in the targeted underlying areas of the face. However, the texture of Juvederm Ultra can be compared to that of a pudding, while the Voluma texture is similar to that of Jello. The thicker texture of Voluma helps to create a more significant cheek lift and build sustainable facial volume.

Placement
Juvederm Ultra is usually recommended for treating nasolabial folds, laugh lines around the mouth and eyes, and fine lines below the eyes. The treatment is injected directly into the lines, wrinkles and folds for optimal benefit, and the gel is placed at a moderate level below the dermis.
Juvederm Voluma gel, on the other hand, is injected deep into the dermis so that it can be placed right on top of the facial bones. Due to its higher viscosity, the gel stays in its place and sits deep. It is injected in areas such as the upper cheek, middle cheek, and chin. Voluma can also help to lift the jowls, even though the gel is not necessarily directly injected in this area.
Unlike Juvederm Ultra, the Voluma gel cannot be used beneath the eyes or in the nasolabial folds due to its thickness. Motykie Medical Spa receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for dermal fillers.

Longevity
While the effects of Juvederm and Voluma can last differently in different patients, on average, Juvederm Ultra’s effects can sustain for about one year. According to Allergan, the effects of Voluma under optimal conditions can last for as long as two years. That makes Voluma one of the longest lasting cosmetic fillers available today for facial volumizing and wrinkle reduction.
