Types of IV Therapy: Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) Antioxidant IV Therapy Clinic

Types of IV Therapy: Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a powerful antioxidant that naturally occurs in potatoes, spinach, broccoli, and yeast and is also found in the kidneys and liver. Synthetic ALA can also be formulated in labs for medicinal purposes.

Alpha-lipoic acid IV therapy can produce effective outcomes for patients suffering from diabetes, and can provide relief from nerve related symptoms of diabetes, such as numbness, pain, and burning in the arms and legs.

Motykie Medical Spa, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides alpha-lipoic acid IV therapy to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.

How does it work?

ALA is known to help in the prevention of some types of cellular damage in the body. It also assists in the restoration of vitamin levels, such as vitamin C and vitamin E. Research has shown that alpha-lipoic acid can promote the function of neurons in diabetics.

The body uses ALA to break down carbs and generate energy for various body organs. In its role as an antioxidant, ALA works to protect the brain under conditions of injury or damage. Certain liver diseases can also improve because of the antioxidant effects of this chemical.

Potential Benefits

Anti-Aging Effects for the Skin

Researchers have indicated that alpha-lipoic acid med spa therapy can help improve fine lines and reduce roughness in the skin that may have occurred due to sun damage. In combination with other treatments, ALA intravenous therapy may also improve skin elasticity, and make your skin appear smoother and more youthful.

Improving Blood Flow after Surgery

IV therapy with alpha-lipoic acid can possibly reduce complications from a surgical procedure because it helps improve blood flow. The therapy may have to be taken for up to several weeks prior to the surgery as well as after the surgery for best results.

Reducing Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes

Alpha-lipoic acid IV therapy can improve the levels of blood sugar in type 2 diabetes patients. Some patients may benefit more than others, which will depend on how long the patient has been suffering from diabetes, whether they are taking anti-diabetes drugs, and more importantly, the purity of the ALA therapy.

Relief from Nerve Pain Related to Diabetes

A dose of 600 to 1800 mg of ALA through IV may improve diabetic neuropathy symptoms, such as pain, numbness, and burning sensation in the arms and legs. The treatment may be required for at least three to five weeks to see improvement. Lower doses of ALA or oral treatment are not likely to work.

Interstitial Cystitis (Painful Bladder Syndrome)

Women may suffer from pelvic pain due to bladder inflammation. Alpha-lipoic acid IV therapy along with certain other minerals, vitamins and fats could help reduce pelvic pain.

In some cases, this med spa therapy is known to improve body weight in people who suffer from obesity or overweight. Early research also indicates that ALA therapy in conjunction with some other drugs could help alleviate symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

Motykie Medical Spa receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for alpha-lipoic acid IV therapy.
